We’re going a little bit lighter this week and talking about what I think are the top 10 music videos of the Christian music industry. This is my opinion, of course, so you don’t have to agree, and if you know of one that I have missed, let me know in the comments!
My criteria has all senses in play here. First off, I have to like the song because a song can have a great music video and I still won’t like it because the song throws me off. Second, it’s got to be visually pleasing, and fourth, I want to feel something when I see it. Either it’s got to relate really well to the song or just be so pretty that I want to watch it. We’ll go from bottom to top.

It seems like every time we turn around, some other celebrity, political leader, wannabe politician, and just about anyone else you could name is claiming to be a Christian. Or, at any rate, they’re declaring that they believe in God. Many even say they believe in Jesus.
Don’t get me wrong, I am sure that some of them really are Christians, love Jesus, and have had genuine salvation experiences. The fruit of their lives post-conversion seems to indicate this at any rate. But somewhere along the line, being a Christian has become a status symbol. Almost an ‘I’m as good as you’ mark. “I can’t be deceived. I have the Holy Spirit. I know the voice of my Father. I am not wrong, and I can’t be deceived.”
I received this literal (albeit somewhat condensed) comment once when I was very gently trying to tell a fellow believer that he was in error. At the time, I was so distressed at the lies that he was believing that I didn’t really stop to consider how much his words showed that he was, in fact, very much deceived. That revelation came in time as I began to think more about whether or not Christians can be deceived if they have the Holy Spirit. I was recently listening to a song by Kim Walker-Smith entitled I Say Yes. My sister introduced me to it, and I kind of fell in love. But it also got me thinking…
Most of us have heard a sermon or two (or maybe more than that) on surrender in our lives. Usually, these messages focus on the things that we must give up to live holy Christian lives. We feel that we must give up success or material possessions in order to be fully submitted to God. To many of us, surrender feels like a constant stream of saying ‘no’ to things and behaviors. Don’t get me wrong, it certainly can look like that. But I sometimes wonder how often surrender simply looks like saying yes. |
