It’s Thanksgiving today. It’s the day when everybody takes a few minutes to actually be thankful for the things around them. Sometimes, we might go around the family table and share one thing we’re thankful for. We post on social media the things we are thankful for. We spend time with family.
I’ve often wondered, though, why is it only at Thanksgiving that we make a point out of being thankful??? If there’s something I’ve learned in the last year or so, it’s that thankfulness is more important than we know. I don’t think most of us realize the incredible power of being thankful. I can’t afford to only be thankful on Thanksgiving or the days surrounding it. I will starve if I do that.

We don’t like to talk about the harder aspects of the Christian life. It’d be so much easier if it was just a walk in the park…pray the right prayers, live as right as you can, depend on grace to take you where you can’t go…
Fortunately, it's not that pat or that easy, and if you’re really passionate about following Jesus, He’s going to take you through some rough waters. Most of the really meaningful parts of our Christian walk happen in valleys and wildernesses. 90% of what I write comes out of my valley seasons. The most powerful lessons I’ve learned have been learned in the wilderness. So while the mountaintop seasons are wonderful and beautiful and I would never trade them for anything, I would also never trade the more difficult aspects of my walk with the Lord. With that being said, I want to talk a bit about a part of our Christian walk that we don’t like to talk about: Character. |
