Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” – Ephesians 6:14-18
Usually, this final verse that we are going to look at (v.18) is relegated to the next section, but I like to point out that there were no verses or page breaks or section breaks in the original text. It seems to me like Paul intended for this to be part of the spiritual armor, and I don’t wonder why.

The sword of the Spirit is a vital piece of the armor of God. Not only is it an effective offensive weapon, but it is also a tremendously important defensive weapon. in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Most of you who are reading this are probably saved, and typically, in our Christian culture, we think of the helmet of salvation as being the moment that we accept Christ. True – to an extent. But salvation is more than just praying the sinner’s prayer and knowing that you’ll go to Heaven when you die, and the helmet of salvation is even more than that. This is probably one of my favorite aspects of our spiritual armor. I don’t know why, but I have always had this fascination with the shield of faith. Maybe it’s that it has the power to extinguish ALL the flaming arrows of the evil one. Wow. I mean, you’ve got to admit that that’s pretty cool |
