“You are always and dearly loved by God! So robe yourself with virtues of God, since you have been divinely chosen to be holy. Be merciful as you endeavor to understand others, and be compassionate, showing kindness toward all. Be gentle and humble, unoffendable in your patience with others.” – Colossians 3:12 TPT
None of us can completely comprehend how loved we are. That’s something our mortal bodies can’t even take in. The weight of love is so strong that we literally cannot handle it. Even a fraction of the love of God for us is breathtaking and overwhelming.

It’s always a fun day when you learn that you can’t sustain your own life. It’s especially fun when you’ve spent your whole life striving to be autonomous, having no need for other people. Another word for it is self-sufficiency. It’s a lesson I can’t tell you how many times I’ve learned…and relearned.
I think this is a common thing for many people who have lived through great financial or economic crises, either personally or in the wake of something widespread. I see it especially in the generation that lived through the Great Depression of the 1930s and the subsequent economic upheaval of World War II. They experienced so much lack, and most never want to experience that ever again. I had a relative that always kept a huge box of soap in her basement as she recalled it being one of the hard things to get during the rationing. |
