It’s crazy to think I started Wings nearly two years ago. So much has changed in my life since that March day I finally launched the site. I didn’t really do this last year (it never really crossed my mind!), but this year has been a crazy one for me, and I thought I’d do a little post talking about what it’s been like for me. It’s been a year of ‘firsts.’ It felt like every time I turned around, I was doing something new, crossing something else off my bucket list, or fulfilling a long-held dream. Some were big and required a lot of effort. Some were sweet and simple. Some were hard-bought. Before I jump into the list of my firsts, though, I do want to reach out and say thank you to everybody who has faithfully read this blog over the past couple of years. I know I haven’t been as consistent as I would have liked (hopefully, I will do better in the upcoming months!), but if there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s to keep your priorities straight.
That’s probably been one of the most valuable of the many lessons I’ve been learning, and I’m discovering that after three years of a God-given mandate to write – to write books, blogs, teaching – that mandate has shifted and changed recently. It’s not that I’m stopping writing – I’m sure that’s something I’ll do for the rest of my life – but I’m certainly spending less time doing it at the moment. My priorities are my job, family, and in some ways, most importantly right at the moment, REST and connecting with Jesus. Anyway, with that being said, here’s a list of a few ‘firsts’ this year for me:
And as for 2024? God only knows what it’s going to look like. The one thing I’m sure of is that God is still on the throne, and next year probably won’t look like last year. To every year there is a newness – a fresh start. Most of the time, it doesn’t “feel” different at first, but there is still the sense of a fresh start, which I, at least, appreciate. Whatever happens, though, my earlier statement still rings true. God is still on the throne, and that’s reason enough to be at peace. What’s something new you did in 2023? Drop a comment and let me know!
